North Knoxville is a diverse and urban neighborhood in just to the north of downtown Knoxville, running along Broadway and including zip codes 37917 and 37914. The community prides itself on the inescapable sense of history.  Transplants from all over the country flock to this Knoxville neighborhood to live in this affordable pocket of antique homes.   The area is filled with college students, working class residents and urban professionals who are living their dream of restoring a historic home.  From Fourth and Gill to Lincoln Park to North Hills to the Fairmont/Emoriland area, there is a broad consensus that this is the best, most neighborly place in Knoxville.

Housing

The architectural styles in the North Knoxville reflect economic conditions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many of Old North Knoxville's houses were probably designed by architects for the affluent residents.  Early 20th century architecture include: Craftsman and Bungalow, Colonial Revival, American Four Square, Minimal Traditional, and French Eclectic.

The Knox County School district serves North Knoxville and all of Knox County.  The schools that specifically serve North Knoxville are Belle Morris Elementary, Fulton High, Whittle Springs Middle, Christenberry Elementary, Austin East/Magnet School, Vine Middle, and Spring Hill Elementary and Beaumont Elementary.  There are also several private schools near Fountain City: St. Joseph Elementary, Knoxville Baptist Christian, Oakmont School, Berean Christian, 1st Lutheran School and Knoxville Catholic High School.

Knoxville Parks and RecreationRecreation

Edgewood Park - located in North Knoxville beside Larry Cox Senior Center and the North Knoxville Library, Edgewood Park is a great place to recreate, have a picnic, or just read a book. The park also offers a playground and swings to occupy the kids while parents walk around the sidewalk that encircles the park.

Whittle Springs Public Golf Course located off Washington Pike and Valley View Road.

Boright Park is located off of Whittle Springs and Boright.  This park was an avenue space between two streets that had enough land to supports a small park. Plenty of new trees line the park and the whole area is grassed. There is a playground area and picnic tables for the local families in the Whittle Springs area.

Christianberry Community Center located on Oglewood Ave. features a weight room, gym, indoor basketball, playground, tennis court, and dance studio.

Knoxville Fine Arts and Crafts Studio located at 1127 Broadway Ave.

Transportation

The Knoxville are has an extensive highway system for a city this size.  Interstate 40 runs right through the center of Knoxville and connects with interstate 75.  I-75 south will take you to Chattanooga in an hour and a half and Atlanta in 3 hours.  I-75 north will take you to Lexington, Kentucky in about an hour and a half.  Traveling west on I-40 will get you to Nashville in about 2 hours.  Traveling east on I-40 will get you to Ashville, NC in about an hour and a half.  Knoxville also has public bus service through KAT (Knoxville Area Transit).  The closest airport is McGee Tyson (TYS) located in south Knoxville near Alcoa, TN about a 15 minute drive from downtown Knoxville.  Hardin Valley is located off of the Pellissippi Parkway (TN-162) and is also part of the area for the proposed TDOT Knoxville Regional Parkway.
